Lifeflight Services at Trinity Hospital Twin City

In early 1991 Ray Ross, President-Elect of the Dennison Rotary Club, identified the need for a helipad to be located on the campus of Twin City Hospital (now Trinity Hospital Twin City). As Chief of Police for the City of Uhrichsville, Ross knew that minutes could mean life or death. At that time, critical patients needing helicopter transport to another hospital would leave Twin City Hospital by ambulance to go to the Claymont Stadium located just less than 1 mile away in order to meet the lifeflight. This process took extra time, and many times the helicopter would cause damage to the football field during landing.

Led by the Dennison Rotary Club, the entire community became involved with the project to construct a helipad on Twin City Hospital's campus. Numerous local businesses, village and city departments, individuals and clubs donated their time and/or resources to help the project come to fruition. The Dennison Rotary Club also assisted local teen Todd Edwards to earn his Eagle Scout rank by helping with the helipad project. Edwards had wanted to give something back to those who had helped him to recover from a life-threatening sledding accident that necessitated his use of the lifeflight services.

After recovering from the accident, Edwards and his friends from Boy Scout Troop 429 donated over 400 hours of labor and raised nearly $2,100 to assist in the construction of the helipad. The Dennison Rotary Club raised over $25,000 to complete the project and provided thousands more via in-kind contributions and labor. Truly a project that brought our communities together in support of Twin City Hospital and saving lives, the helipad project was dedicated during a ribbon cutting ceremony that took place on Sunday, July 26, 1992 at 3:00 p.m.

Special thanks to the Dennison Rotary Club for spearheading this effort and to Boy Scout Troop 429 and all community groups, businesses and individuals who helped make saving lives a little easier at Twin City Hospital (now Trinity Hospital Twin City) through the construction of the helipad.
