Many people are unaware of the amount of sugar and calories in the glass, bottle or can that they pick up to drink without thinking about anything other than quenching their thirst. Some research suggests that liquids may not trigger the same feeling of fullness that solid food does, which may contribute to an increase in calories.

Some examples of favorite beverages with calories and grams of sugar include:

  • Lemon lime soda (20 oz) has 285 calories and 77 grams of sugar
  • Orange soda (20 oz) has 325 calories and 85 grams sugar
  • Cola (44 oz) has 510 calories and 128 grams sugar
  • Sports drink ( 20 oz) has 125 calories and 35 grams sugar
  • Sweetened ice tea (16 oz )has 140 calories and 36 grams sugar
  • Energy drink (15 oz) has 200 calories and 54 grams sugar
  • 100 % Apple juice (8 oz) has 115 calories and 27 grams sugar
  • Skim milk (8 oz) has 90 calories and 12 grams sugar
  • Water (unlimited size) has 0 calories and 0 grams sugar

Water is the perfect beverage and plays an important role in all of your body’s functions. It regulates body temperature, moistens tissues, lubricates joints, helps flush waste products, carries nutrients to cells, and protects organs. The best part of water is that it has 0 calories and 0 grams of sugar.
