DENNISON—During a special volunteer appreciation and recognition meeting this summer, Trinity Hospital Twin City honored more than 60members of the Trinity Hospital Twin City United Volunteer Auxiliary. Additionally, seventeen volunteers were awarded service pins in recognition of their years of dedicated service to the hospital, and one volunteer was lauded as volunteer of the year.

Volunteers received service pins for anniversary milestones earned in 2013, and the group recognized represented a total of 180 years of volunteer service to the hospital. Elaine Clark of Deersville; Charlene O’Hara, Punkie Roahrig, Ruth Ryan and Shirley Westhafer of Dennison; Tom & Sharon Frank of Gnadenhutten; and Eva Burroway, Marie Ferguson, Richard Hodkinson and Paula Risley of Uhrichsville were honored for five years of service. Receiving pins for ten years of service included Dorothy Busch of Dennison and Joan Wolf of Gnadenhutten. Connie Colvin of Dover and Bonnie Ingland of New Philadelphia received a service pin for fifteen years of service. Iris Kerschbaumer of Uhrichsville was honored for 35 years of service, and Tana Edwards of New Philadelphia was recognized for 40 years of service

Trinity Hospital Twin City United Volunteer Auxiliary President Emillie Blackwood presented the Volunteer of the Year award to Barb Braun of Gnadenhutten. Braun has been a hospital volunteer for about 20 years and currently helps staff the hospital information desk at the lobby, the coffee bar and the blood pressure screenings in Gnadenhutten. Braun also helps train new volunteers for the information desk. In her free time, Braun enjoys adding to her cookie cutter collection of more than 35,000 cookie cutters.

“She has always been available to help whenever needed,” noted Blackwood of Braun. “She always has a smile and a willing heart. She is a true representative of our hospital.”

“We are so thankful for Barb and for all of our volunteers,” shared Blackwood. “Without their dedication and hard work, we would not be able to assist the hospital in funding much-needed equipment for patient care.”

Currently, the volunteer auxiliary is providing free blood pressure checks every Saturday from 8 am to noon at the Gnadenhutten Farmer’s Market. They are also busy planning fall fundraisers.

Community members of all ages are welcome to join the Trinity Hospital Twin City United Volunteer Auxiliary. Opportunities are available to volunteer for as little as one shift a month to several shifts a month. Officers of the United Volunteer Auxiliary include President Emillie Blackwood of Gnadenhutten, First Vice President Jan Thomas of Gnadenhutten, Second Vice President Barb Besozzi of Scio, Treasurer Carolyn McCoy of Gnadenhutten , Secretary Helen Gordon of Tippecanoe , Corresponding Secretary Connie Colvin of Dover, and Assistant Treasurer Debbie Heddleson of Tuscarawas.
