DENNISON—In recognition of February as American Heart Month, Trinity Hospital Twin City is hosting a free “Love Your Heart” event for area residents at 5:30 pm on Thursday, February 19th at the hospital’s first floor St. Francis Conference room. Those who attend will receive a free blood pressure screening, free pedometer, healthy snacks, educational information and the opportunity to hear from cardiologist Dr. Ramana Murty and his colleague, C. Ranay Smith, nurse practitioner. The featured speakers are from Trinity Health System of Steubenville, and they provide cardiology care as part of Trinity Hospital Twin City’s Specialty Clinic at Dennison.

Beginning at 5:30 pm, the Love Your Heart event will kick off with a health fair where Trinity Medical Group’s certified nurse practitioners (Amy Bardall, Katelyn Obermiller and Deb Scott) will share educational information on eating healthy, managing stress and staying active. Blood pressure screenings and healthy snacks will also be provided at the health fair.

At about 6 pm, Dr. Murty and Smith will discuss how high blood pressure relates to heart disease. They will explain the current blood pressure guidelines, signs and symptoms, causes, harmful effects, treatment and prevention. They will conclude their talk with a question and answer session, and participants will be able to ask any question regarding heart health.

“We wanted to offer the community the chance to learn more about heart health and specifically about blood pressure,” shared Kelly Bowe, Trinity Hospital Twin City Community Outreach Coordinator. “We’ve received a lot of requests from the community to provide more information about blood pressure. Since blood pressure is closely associated with heart disease, we felt this seminar provided the perfect opportunity. We also want to help our community members learn to better manage their health and reduce the risk of heart problems by eating healthy, managing stress and staying active.”

Dr. Murty is a Board Certified Cardiologist and a Fellow in the American College of Cardiologists. He has over 35 years of cardiology experience. Dr. Murty provides pacemaker insertion services and cardiology services at Trinity Hospital Twin City’s Specialty Clinic. His colleague, Smith, is a certified nurse practitioner with extensive experience in cardiology and internal medicine.
