DENNISON—Trinity Hospital Twin City’s United Volunteer Auxiliary is hosting a special bake and craft sale this Friday, December 14th from 8am until about 4pm at the First National Bank of Dennison and at the hospital’s first floor St. Francis Conference Room. These events also include the chance to purchase raffle tickets for a special once-a-century item—the hospital’s 100 year anniversary quilt.

At the conclusion of the bake and craft sales, one lucky winner will win the beautiful quilt that was hand-crafted by hospital volunteers and supporters. Raffle tickets for the quilt can be purchased at the Trinity Hospital Twin City United Volunteer Auxiliary’s Coffee Bar & Gift Shop (next to the hospital lobby) and at the sales this Friday for $5 each or 3 chances for $10. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Trinity Hospital Twin City.

The beautiful full/queen size quilt was created under the leadership of hospital volunteer, June Mathias, of Gnadenhutten. The quilt features a picture of Trinity Hospital Twin City (formerly Twin City Hospital) from about 1917 and a picture of the present-day building. Mathias said she wanted to create a quilt to be used as a fundraiser for the volunteer auxiliary, and when she heard the hospital was celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, she thought, “We have to do the quilt for the 100th year.”

Mathias has always really enjoyed creating quilts for her family, so the work to piece together and organize the quilt project was a joy. Other hospital volunteers and supporters helped Mathias. Donna Young sewed the quilt blocks, Pat Harmon helped pick out the material, Amy Jones did the machine quilting, and Mathias and her daughter, Sue Crabtree, completed the embroidery. Dick Hodkinson created the fancy scripted tag on the corner of the back of the quilt to list the names of all the volunteers who worked on the project.

“I hope the drawing is really successful,” shared Mathias.
