DENNISON—Making medical decisions regarding the use of living wills and medical power of attorney can be confusing. To help area residents understand the differences between a DNR/living will and the role of the medical power of attorney, Trinity Hospital Twin City is hosting a free mini seminar for area residents at 6 pm on Thursday, April 24th at the hospital’s first floor St. Francis Conference room.

Featured speakers at the event will be Dr. Anne Harper and Julie Smith of Community Hospice. Those who attend this mini seminar will receive healthy snacks and the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session with the speakers.  The hospital’s social services department will provide living will forms to those who are interested.

“We’ve received a lot of requests to provide information to the community on this topic,” shared Tiffany Poland, Trinity Hospital Twin City Director of Community Outreach. “We want to empower people to feel confident to plan their medical futures by understanding when and how to use living wills and medical power of attorney.”

Dr. Harper, MD, Medical Director at Community Hospice, is board certified in internal medicine and hospice/palliative care. She has more than 15 years experience as a physician. Dr. Harper provides care to Hospice patients to help control symptoms, address family concerns and ease difficult situations.  Smith, LISW-S, Director of Counseling Services at Community Hospice, has more than 18 years experience providing social work and has experience in hospice, medical, mental health and developmental disabilities.
